The priests mostly spam Great Heal on their fellow NPCs for the entirety of the encounter to maintain them alive, and sometimes cast a Smite for fun.You'll want to stack it as fast as possible by sending multiple ranged DPS next to the fires, and then continue refreshing the 25 seconds debuff by keeping only one caster next to a fire at all times. This debuff stacks up to 25 times for a total +50% magic damage taken and is essential to maintain to increase the damage output of the raid. The fire prevents receiving debuffs such as Biting Cold and Freeze while you're standing within 11 yards of it, but also gives your spells and ranged abilities a 33% chance to deal 3k bonus damage and apply the Singed debuff to Hodir. But most importantly, they summon a Toasty Fire next to them. They will help Melt Ice to free any NPC still trapped in a flash freeze and throw the occasional Fireball. The mages are arguably the most important NPCs and the largest damage increase to the raid.Storm Cloud doesn't provide anything to the player it's cast on, but up to 4 players that will hit the Storm Cloud target will receive the Storm Power buff, increasing their critical strike damage by 135% for 30 seconds. The shamans chain cast Lava Burst and buff a random player with Storm Cloud every ~30 seconds.Obviously, every ranged and melee DPS will want to have the maximum uptime possible within these Starlight zones to increase their damage output, all the while dodging the Ice Shards on the field. The druids do pitiful damage but every few seconds they will summon a Starlight zone at a random location in the field lasting for a minute, which buffs every player standing inside with a +50% attack and casting speed bonus.
You will find 2 druids, 2 shamans, 2 mages, and 2 priests. You will find 8 frozen units in front of Hodir, that must be freed from their ice blocks as soon as you engage the boss to benefit from their respective buffs as early as possible, as these will tremendously increase the damage output of your raid and are essential to succeed in beating the hard-mode timer.
Before dissecting Hodir's abilities, let's take a look at the NPCs that are the most important part of the encounter.
